What Would You Do Without Friends

Hey Team,
Another company supporting the American Heart Association will be sponsoring a used book drive October 15th and 16th.  I have been able to collect confirmation that we can participate.
How you can help is this weekend, collect any used or new books which you would like to donate in support of CFI’s donation to the American Heart.  Please bring in the books and deliver them to me on Monday, September 22nd.  Any and all proceeds from the sale of these books will be added to our team total.  Any books not sold will be donated to the Palm Harbor Library in the name of CFI.

This one is a no brainer guys.  Just bring in the books and I’ll take care of the rest.

Thanks again for your strong support.

Are Your Stogies Of High Caliber

How to tell if your cigar is of the highest quality? Check the ashtray—the ashes left behind can speak volumes about the quality of your cigar. Here a few simple tips to determining the quality of your cigar.

First, note how fast your cigar burns. A cigar that seems to burn too quickly or disposes ashes that break apart easily is probably a lower quality cigar. If the ashes seem too messy, and don’t break apart together, this may also indicate a lower quality cigar. Also, check the color of the ashes. If the ash color seems to change, the tobacco leaf mix may be of poorer quality.

The highest quality cigars, those that are well packed, will burn very slowly and burn stiff ash. The ‘stiff ash’ can remain intact up to two to three inches long, and remain on the cigar without breaking apart. A high quality cigar can be burned down to the nub. Even high quality cigars may vary in taste, especially when they are smoked down to the nub. Many times, you can usually get ‘burn past’ these bitter spots by letting the cigar burn on its own for a few minutes.

Is Your Blog Aging Like a Fine Zinfandel

The
process of aging starts immediately after the grapes are picked,
crushed and pressed. The grapes are then put into an oak barrel or
steel vat, with some winemakers preferring to add oak chips to the
vat. During the aging process acids, sugar and tannin interact. By
having more tannin present the winemaker is able to age the wine for
a longer period without fear of oxidation. This along with
temperature, light conditions, and alcohol complete the aging
process. Wines age faster with a warmer temperature. So the
winemaker tries to maintain a cool

stable
55-65 degree temperature in a dark area as the ideal aging
atmosphere. A big fluctuation in temperature or light conditions on a
daily or weekly basis is detrimental to a good wine.

Now
why are red wines aged more than white wines? A simple explanation is
that all grapes are white inside, which means that red wine needs to
allow the exterior skin to mix with the interior when being crushed
to give it the red color. This mixture contains tannin, which also
aids the aging process significantly. You also get tannin from the
oak sides of the barrel. Compounds within these, known as phenolics,
allow the wine to age longer while keeping the wine from oxidizing.
So the red wine is able to age longer and develop a more full
flavored bold taste.

White
wines have these same compounds but at much lower levels. This is
because the inside of the grape is what wine manufacturers mostly use
and by not using as much of the exterior skin less tannin is present.
This results in a considerable shorter aging process than a vat with
a large amount of tannin present. Attempting to age most white wines
over an extended period causes it to flatten and lose some of its
aromatic freshness.

So
go ahead and save that special red wine for your Grandchild’s
marriage, but be sure to serve the white wine within two or three
years.

Wines
go through the above process to be ready for consumption. Next the
wine is bottled and stored in wine cellars to finish the aging
process. Most wines are consumable when the purchased. The main
reason is because no one expects to plan the dinner menu for that
special party two or three years in advance in order to age the
correct wine for the occasion. And how many people have a wine cellar
to complete the aging process of their favorite wine?

Wine
is also used in religious ceremonies in many cultures. The Bible
mentions wine no less than 191 times. The references in both
testaments often admonish the reader to use wine, but to use it
properly and not to misuse it.

“Forsake
not an old friend, for the new is not comparable to him. A new friend
is as new wine: when it is old, thou shalt drink it with pleasure.”

Ecclesiastes
9:10.

“Wine
was created from the beginning to make men joyful, and not to make
men drunk. Wine used with moderation is the joy of the soul and the
heart.” Ecclesiastes 31:35-36.

“Drink
no longer water but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake.”

I
Timothy 5:23..

The
health effects of wine are also the subject of considerable ongoing
debate and study. In the USA, a boom in red wine consumption was
touched off in the 1990s by ’60 Minutes’, and other news reports on
the French paradox. But now research indicates that moderate red
wine consumption may help protect against certain cancers and heart
disease, and can have a positive effect on cholesterol levels and
blood pressure. It now seems clear that regular consumption of up to
1-2 drinks a day does reduce mortality, due to 10%–40% lower risk
of coronary heart disease, for those over the age of 35. This is
because of the presence of antioxidants in the wine as well as
significant amounts of resveratrol, which is naturally present in the
grape’s skin. The original studies showed this more in red wines
due to the higher concentrations of resveratrol.

Resveratrol
has been shown previously to have a number of potentially beneficial

properties,
including antioxidant, anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory and
anti-cancer effects.

Here
are a few common and uncommon global varieties of wine.

The
king of white wines is Chardonnay. It has a vanilla or smoky type
aroma and flavor and goes especially well with fish and white meat.

Sauvignon
Blanc is another popular white wine which gives off herbal or
vegetatal and an ocassional peppery aromas. It has a higher acidity
level than the Chardonnay and seafood is a good match for this wine.

Semillon
is often blended with Sauvignon Blanc to fill out this more acidic
variety of white wines. Semillon alone has more subtle aromas and has
a relatively low acidity. Its golden color along with the scent of
figs and lemons adds to its attractiveness and it goes well with
cheese. This is one of the few white wines that age very well.

Riesling
is a excellent wine to have with food, because of its balance of
sugar and acid and its relatively low acidity. It can pair with white
fish just like a dry wine, or with pork, and it can also stand up to
Thai and Chinese cuisine. Riesling’s typical aromas are of flowers,
tropical fruits, and mineral stone. This wine is almost never oaked,
which then leads itself to suitability with most foods.

Tips For Topping Off A Cigar

For new smokers, lighting a cigar can seem as daunting as learning to choose a good single. Here are four tips to guide you in lighting a cigar for the first time.

1. Use cedar matches, if possible. If you prefer to use a lighter, make sure it’s butane lighter to avoid strong odors.

2. Warm the open end of the cigar (aka ‘the foot’ of the cigar) slowly over the flame, without touching it to the fire. Let a black ring form around the end.

3. Place the cigar in your mouth and draw in slowly. Hold the cigar over the flame, about half an inch above it, again without touching. Continue to draw in until the cigar draws the flame. Turn the cigar slowly, spinning it to establish an even burn.

4. Once your cigar is lit, take it out of your mouth and observe the burn you have established. If the burn appears to be uneven, simply blow on the unlit sections to draw the burn, and then take one or two draws from the cigar to reestablish an even burn.

Golf Demands A Bit Of Trickery

If you keep your eye on the ball, then your swing will be free from faults and the ball will be hit correctly. If you can keep your head still for the entire swing until the club head meets the ball, your swing will definitely improve. Then if you have an awkward shot, you will be able to hit it with confidence and assurance.

Bad or difficult weather can make any shot more difficult. When the wind is blowing, it is important to keep your feet closer together. It is natural to think that you just need to hit the ball harder, but the wind makes it even more important to hit the ball correctly.

The more awkward the shot, the more you need your muscles to be relaxed enough to make the shot. Here is a tip. The shorter the shot that you need to make, the closer your feet should be brought together. Hit the ball true, instead of with all of your strength to keep it from bouncing away and reducing the distance that it travels.

Making The Trick Shot Count

For some of us golfers, this is something that happens to us more often that we would like. You know what I am talking about. Shots that throw you off balance or aren’t as simple as instruction videos or professionals make them look. Here are some great ways to overcome the awkward shots.

When you have an awkward shot to make, think about how you can swing, keep your balance, and keep from moving your head. Then imagine the line your club travels along.

Prior to setting up your shot, consider where the club head needs to travel for the greatest distance in a straight line. Keep in mind that the ball makes contact with the club head for several inches. After you make a few practice swings, you will be able to see what relationship your feet will have with the line and then you can determine your stance.

It is important to keep from swaying when you are about the hit the ball. Just before you swing, see if there is any problem keeping your balance. If there is, you need to keep shifting until you find a comfortable position where there is no tension in your swing. Freedom in your muscles and mind is what you are looking for so that you will be able to swing smoothly. If you are fidgety when you address the ball, you are not going to be able to focus on the ball. Be sure you keep your feet still.

Ensure that you can see the ball from the beginning to end of your swing. Even if it is a difficult shot, do not lose focus on the ball. This will help you hit the ball cleanly and solidly.

Putting Minus The Magic Key

When you have it, you have it. The world is yours. When you don’t have it…then you think that you would be better off placing the ball in the hole with your hand rather than using your putter.

Just the last time you played you had the same stance, putter, and “feel” as you had today, but last time you made the shot easily. What happened?

Do you just have bad luck this time?

Digital Vs Analog Digicams

It seems that every month, if not every week, different manufacturers are coming up with the latest digital cameras to entice potential clients. And it’s just not working for us!

After spending sizeable amount of time at the mall figuring out which is the best digital camera for us, we finally have enough money to buy for that eye-popping, 7 mega pixel, 10x digital zoom, potable, candy colored, up to 512MB expandable memory of super hi-speed SD memory card and not to mention very portable, (that will be the envy of almost everyone we know). We march to the mall armed with our life savings and lotsa pride in ourselves, when we pass by a new display – an eight mega pixel, up to 1G expandable memory, with built it mic and stereo surround, video playback capable, with 22 scenic modes kind-of-camera. And we sigh because the producer of this amazing gadget claims that this is the best digital camera yet out in the market. And so as we always want to have the best, armed with our life savings and a few credit cards, we buy the “best digital camera.” But then again, that doesn’t last too long, after two months or so, there’s another “best digital camera.”

And so it confuses us. What makes a digital camera, the best digital camera?

Well, there are certain factors to consider when looking for the “best digital camera” for us.

MEGAPIXELS. One of the most important features of digital camera to make it into the best digital camera category is its mega pixel property. The higher the mega pixels the better the actual photograph will come out. A mega pixel is equivalent to one million pixels. The resolution of your image is based upon the mega pixel property of your camera. This means that as you enlarge the picture, you would get more detail and less blurry colors.

LCD SIZE. The best digital camera will always have a large LCD to help you frame your subject without having to squint to the viewfinder. This is also helpful when reviewing your images, some cameras enable touch up and editing features with its LCD. A 1.5-inch display is average, a 2-inch LCD display is good, but the best LCD size would be 2.5 inches or higher.

ZOOM. Most digital cameras have both digital and optical zoom. A higher optical zoom is always better than a higher digital zoom. Digital cameras are usually furnished with optical of between 3x to 10x. The better the optical zoom, the higher it climbs up to the best digital camera category.

MEMORY CARD. Always make sure that your memory card is the right one for your digital camera. There are different types of memory card like the xD, SD, Flash card and the likes. And these types of memory cards go with certain types of digital cameras. of course memory storage is also up there in choosing the best digital cameras. Choose the size of memory that you need, if you’re a photo junkie, you might need more than 32MB. Memory cards can go up to 1G.

The key point to find the best digital camera is to find one that will best fit you and your lifestyle. Don’t just buy the latest or the one that claims they are the best digital cameras out in the market. You wouldn’t want to buy a DSLR and use it with your home activities or family outing and have to lug it around?! Or you don’t want to buy the latest point and shoot camera when you’re serious about being a professional photographer. (Of course, you can use this for starters, but if you’re not a novice photographer anymore, you wouldn’t want to get this kind of camera.)

Actually, the best digital camera is the one that you will enjoy and use. Not the type that you’ll just leave rotting in its box or after a few weeks of usage or so, up there in the attic.
