The Consequential Stuck In beta Testing FAN Network

Here is the latest in a series of update emails that i received recently for yet another ad network caught in the vortex of the ever-growing “beta” mode. This one has been stuck in this mode ever since i was trying to launch back in 2006. Read on for more highlights:

I’d like to let you in on some important changes that will be happening in the
next several days to the next several weeks.

1) Server

The most important issue here is that we’ve been having trouble with our new
server. It kept crashing and losing connection on us. After 3 months, our host
finally got us a new server. We will be sending some of our data over there for
safe keeping and to take the load off of our first server.

After that, we will finally integrate the new forum, payment processors (e-gold,
e-bullion and merchant account), and SSL certificate to protect everyone’s
profile information.

2) Promotions

Oh, we have huge promotions going on soon. One of the biggest ones is that we’ll
be changing the withdrawal limit from $50 to $20. So if you reach $20, we’ll be
sending you your money on the 1st and/or 15th. We’ve already made some payouts,
but I’m sure $20 will allow us to send out even more. This is only good news for
you.

Another promotion is that we’ll be giving $20 for free to any advertiser that
deposits $50. It can be in one lump sum or over a period of time. It doesn’t
matter. And yes, this feature is currently active.

3) ASAP

I’ve noticed some ad networks already trying to copy our idea of allowing
advertisers and publishers to approve each other, but never-the-less, they won’t
catch on to what we are about to do. We are going through some more changes to
further improve the ASAP system. It will be much more sophisticated and
definitely much more targeted and controlled for both ends.

Please bear with us through this transition, as it will be a little different
than what you’re already use to. I understand that it’s hard to get around
without instructions on how things work, but that is done on purpose to prevent
our competition from copying everything from us. When everything is complete and
set in stone, we will have the instructions and other data up for your use.

4) Referral Program

A little while ago I asked members to cast their vote on how they want to be
paid for their affiliate publisher. Well, the answer was pretty obvious. Now,
you’ll be earning 8% from your affiliates who earn money through publishing
almost in real time. This data is updated every 15 minutes so we do not overload
our servers. This means when your affiliate makes $5.64, you’ll get 8% of that.
If your affiliates’ income goes up, so does yours.

We’ve also noticed other ad networks making changes to their referral program.
AdSense, for example, is paying less and to a smaller group. AdBrite tries to
make theirs more appealing by adding an extra 10% for 9 months. Woo, that’s
great! Sure. What happens after the 9 months? Exactly, nothing. You’ll receive
nothing more. Stick with the long tail theory that pays you more in the long
run.

5) Campaigns

This is a huge one. We will be reducing your ad size options from 13 to only 5.
The reason for this is that we are just too new to allow advertisers and
publishers to choose from so many different ad sizes.

By reducing the filters, it will ensure more ads are delivered. This means more
visitors for advertisers and more money for publishers. It’s a win-win-win deal
for all of us. As we progress into launch, or even after launch, we will then
release the other ad sizes.

6) Account Balance

You may notice that your account balance isn’t adding up correctly in some
areas. We’re working on that. The new layout is there, but the functioning
details are still a little flipped. We will have this corrected shortly before
we start sending out payments again. And yes, the orange is strong. That will go
too.

7) Design Change

This was inevitable. A design change is needed and one will be applied soon. The
main appearance will remain, but small enhancements will be added. So don’t be
surprised if you come back to FAN and see that we’ve made a few cosmetic
changes.
